Eats, Shoots & Leaves is a book that has recently come to my attention. Written by British journalist Lynne Truss, the book is something of a call to arms for the punctuation-minded.
This New Yorker review takes the book to task, pointing out that the first punctuation error comes in the dedication. At one point Eats, Shoots & Leaves references a way the New Yorker uses punctuation incorrectly, something the New Yorker denies, so maybe it’s a little personal.
Even so Eats, Shoots & Leaves was a bestseller on both sides of the pond, so someone with a passing interest in punctuation, grammar, or the written word will probably enjoy it. Those reading it with the goal of finding all the grammatical errors in the book might also enjoy it, but for different reasons.
