!!! (usually pronounced chk chk chk, or chik chik chik, or that band whose name is three exclamation points) is a band after my heart. According to their website “!!! is pronounced by repeating thrice any monosyllabic sound. Chk Chk Chk is the most common pronunciation, but they could just as easily be called Pow Pow Pow, Bam Bam Bam, Uh Uh Uh, etc.”
You really have to hand it to these guys for sticking to their guns. Naming your band something like !!! presents you with a lot of difficult hurdles: hard to find on the internet, hard for your fans to tell other people about your band, confusing when you write an excited email about them, among other things.
I listened to a few songs by these guys a few years back, but never bought one of their albums or anything. I think I’m going to have to put in more effort, any band whose name is purely punctuation deserves my full attention.
