A while back I wrote a post about some of the commercials that were starting to come out to get people excited about the upcoming World Cup. As if we needed companies to get us excited about this! Still, this latest crop of commercial has gotten me excited about the World Cup, and also makes me want to purchase products.
As we get closer to June 11th and more commercials come out, I’ll probably have to write some more about the commercials coming out. I get the feeling that these are just the preliminaries. I bet they’re waiting until the beginning of June to release the good stuff. Without further ado:
So first up a commercial for ESPN telling us to put aside all our differences for a month and watch some soccer. Oh, ESPN will be broadcasting every game? Huh. I couldn’t place the narrator during the commercial, and it bothered me enough to look it up. Turns out it’s Bono. Ok ESPN, we get it. What’s up with them showing a picture of North Korean soldiers in formation when they were talking about communism and socialism? ESPN knows North Korea is in the World Cup right? Not that they have to worry about anyone from North Korea seeing this ad though I guess. Enough of this stuff about how much the world sucks when the World Cup isn’t on, let’s see some sweet soccer moves!
Next up are some commercials from Nike. Looks like Nike has gone the safe route like in 2006 and hitched their wagon to Brazil again. How crazy is Nike going to go in 2014 when the World Cup is actually in Brazil? Maybe someday Nike will think the US team is good enough to warrant a commercial or two.
Nike has also created a series of commercials highlighting different soccer moves. And they’ve gotten Robinho to talk about the moves and show off the new Nike football boots while some random guys do all the cool stuff.

That’s it for now, but I’m sure I’ll be back with some more Nike commercials, and hopefully some other companies for a little variety.

HATE HATE HATE Bono and his delivery was flat and boring and I was STILL a little pumped for the World Cup after that promo.
